Apple Watch Series 12 is built around a new Health Sensing System and the S11 chip. The optical heart sensor reads your heart rate every five seconds, all day long, for the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable. Heart rate variability is now measured up to 24 times more often. Recovery HRV tracks daily stress and recovery, while overall HRV points to broader cardiovascular health.

All of that feeds readiness, a single score from zero to ten with a clear recommendation: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It. It draws on your activity, training load, vitals and sleep score, updating through the day. A new daytime vitals view sits alongside the overnight one. Around it sit the Vitals, Sleep, Heart Rate, ECG, Blood Oxygen and Cycle Tracking apps, with notifications for irregular rhythm, hypertension and sleep apnoea.

A redesigned pedometer delivers the most accurate step tracking of any smartwatch, and a new Steps complication puts the count on your watch face. Running, hiking, cycling and swimming have their own metrics. It is water resistant to 50 metres and rated IP6X for dust, with a depth gauge to six metres and a water temperature sensor. Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, Crash Detection and Check In are there when things go wrong.

The Always-On Retina display uses wide-angle OLEDs and LTPO3, reaching 2,000 nits at its brightest and one nit in the dark. The battery lasts up to 24 hours of normal use, 38 hours in Low Power Mode and 10 hours of outdoor workout. Fifteen minutes of charging returns up to 12 hours of use, and five minutes covers a night of sleep tracking.

The S11 chip also brings Audio Intelligence. Live Rewind shows the last 15 seconds of a conversation as text, Siri Recap summarises what was said, Sound Recognition alerts you to sirens and alarms, and Shazam names the music around you. Audio is processed inside Secure Exclave, a hardware-isolated compartment, then deleted. watchOS 27 adds Siri AI, single tap, double tap and wrist flick gestures.

Aluminium cases come in dark bronze, light gold, black and space grey, protected by Ceramic Shield 2, 60 percent tougher than the previous generation's Ion-X glass. They are the lightest of the range, from 32.2 grams.

Titanium cases come in radiant gold and natural, under a sapphire front crystal, at 36.5 or 44.9 grams. Apple Watch Hermès Series 12 is offered in silver titanium and, for the first time, radiant gold.

The ceramic case, in pearl white and night blue, also uses sapphire. It stands 43mm or 47mm tall, measures 9.85mm deep and weighs 41.7 to 52.9 grams. Its sand and navy blue Sport Bands close with a ceramic pin-and-tuck.

Aluminium and titanium cases stand 42mm or 46mm tall at 9.7mm deep, fitting wrists from 130 to 200mm and 140 to 245mm respectively. Every model has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, Ultra Wideband and Apple Pay. Cellular models add 5G RedCap and LTE. All are made with 40 percent recycled material.
