MacBook Replacement Power Adapter Guide

We are regularly asked by customers which replacement power adapter they need for their MacBook. Apple has released various different adapters onto the market over the years. On this page we have listed the most recent Apple MacBook models and their corresponding power adaters.

How to find which power adapter is right for you:

First you need to know which MacBook model you own. Apple has a support article that will help you: Find your Mac model name and serial number. Alternatively, you can identify the power adapter you have by reading this Apple support article: Identify your Mac power adapter.

The Wattage of the power adapter is important because otherwise your MacBook may not have enough power. The larger the MacBook screen, the more power it needs to operate. The tables below show how many Watts are needed for each MacBook model. You can get a power adapter with the same or more Wattage (e.g. there is no issue with using a 140W power adapter to charge a 35W MacBook Air), but avoid getting a power adapter with less wattage.

For example, if you try to charge a 140W MacBook Pro with a 35W power adapter, the power adapter will not be able to cope with the demands of the computer, and all it will be able to do is extend the battery life for a few hours. The reason there are power adapters with less Wattage and there isn't just one 140W power adapter for all MacBook models is cost, size and weight. The more powerful a power adapter is, the more it will cost and the bulkier and heavier it will be.

In addition to the Wattage, the charging port is also very important. Apple has four types of charging ports: MagSafe 1, MagSafe 2, MagSafe 3 and USB-C. You can find out which charging port your MacBook has from this Apple support article: Charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. Also please note that newer MacBooks with MagSafe 3 can also use the USB-C ports for charging, so you are not limited to a MagSafe 3 connector.

In the tables below you can find the adapter for your MacBook model.
